STUDIOS SUCCESS STORY
Nokia Ovi Share
Client: Nokia
Client’s Target Audience: Online and mobile users interested in sharing personal media.
Synopsis: FILTER STUDIOS developed two Flash-based rich media display applications for a highly visible file sharing portal, Ovi Share.
The Challenge: Nokia sought to create a unique experience that would allow users to upload, organize, and share content from their mobile phone, PC, or digital camera. With a number of existing media sites preceding Ovi Share, Nokia hoped to differentiate themselves by creating a media sharing experience that could be both passive and interactive.
The Solution: FILTER STUDIOS’ creative team worked in conjunction with the FILTER-staffed UX team at Nokia to design, develop and integrate the photo-sharing application and video player.
Using Adobe Flash and Flex Builder, FILTER developed a lightweight application that is capable of consuming and displaying media feeds directly from the Ovi site. Associated metadata is also delivered and displayed to further enhance the viewing experience.
Deemed “The Fishbowl,” the application addresses the needs of a wide range of users by offering a highly interactive layered view as well as a simplified slideshow mode. Media can easily be embedded into the user’s own website or blog.
The Result: A clean and engaging interface successfully brings user-generated content to the forefront, a primary goal of Nokia’s Ovi Share, and offers compelling options for interacting with media.
Randy Kerr, UX Manager at Nokia, commented, “This is the kind of ‘out of the box’ thinking I expect from FILTER.”
