AIGA San Francisco and the AIGA Center for Sustainable Design will present the third biennial Compostmodern on January 19th in San Francisco. Compostmodern is an interdisciplinary design conference dedicated to promoting sustainable solutions within the design community at large. Prior to the event, the AIA architects will be transforming the gourd of all gourds into structural showpieces, which will be on view in the Studio for everyone to come and check out.

ACM SIGCHI, ACM SIGGRAPH, and AIGA are excited to announce the third dux07(designing for user experience conference) focused on social media and networks. dux07 will gather together designers and researchers to share stories and insights about meeting user and business needs through design. The conference will feature case studies selected through a rigorous peer-review process that emphasizes practical, real-world learning. The conference is November 5th–7th in Chicago.

Is it possible that an unreal object made in someone's likeness can affect the real life of that person? Ask portrait painter Gwenn Seemel who claims her work is rooted more in Voodoo beliefs than in any classical western tradition of figurative art. More than 40 art galleries will participate in the newly formatted “Miracle Mile Art Walk” to be held on the third Saturday of each month, from 12 noon to 5 PM, beginning September 15th in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles. An opening celebration, starting at 12 noon, will be hosted by Couturier Gallery at 166 N. La Brea Ave., with appetizers provided by Panini Grill Deli. An art discussion will follow at the gallery.
